School Uniform

It is our school policy that all children should wear school uniform when attending school, or when participating in school-organised events such as educational visits. We strongly believe that wearing a uniform is important for many reasons:

- it promotes a sense of pride in our school;
- it helps to create a sense of community and belonging;
- it identifies the children with the school; - supports our commitment to inclusion;
- it is practical, smart and designed with health and safety in mind.

Our School Uniform

- A royal blue jumper, sweatshirt or cardigan with the school logo or plain

- A white shirt or polo shirt

- Black or grey trousers, shorts, skirt or pinafore

- A blue and white checked dress (in the Summer)

- Black shoes, boots or plain black trainers

Shoes should be flat and appropriate for school. Your child should wear shoes that they can do up independently and which do not prevent them from running in the playground. For health and safety reasons, sandals and heeled shoes or boots are not appropriate for school.

Water bottles and book bags can be bought for a small fee at the school office.

PE Kit

All children at ABPS will take part in PE every week and these will be both indoor or outdoor sessions. Children in Years 3 and 4 will also take part in swimming lessons. All children must and wear:

- Blue, black, navy plain shorts, joggers or leggings

- Blue plain sweatshirt or school royal blue hoodie.

- A plain round neck white t-shirt

- Trainers

Please note that for health and safety reasons children are not permitted to wear earrings for PE. Your child’s teacher will advise you when PE lessons take place so that earrings can be removed. Recently pierced ears will be covered with medical tape.

Jewellery, Make-Up and Nail Varnish

Children should not be wearing any jewellery in school. The exceptions to this rule are a watch and a pair of plain gold or silver studs for pierced ears. If your child comes to school wearing anything other than plain studs, they will be asked to remove them.

Hair bands and clips should be of an appropriate size so as not to be a distraction.

Make-up, nail varnish and acrylic nails are not permitted to be worn in school.

Support for Parents

We believe that one of the responsibilities of parents is to ensure that their child has the correct uniform and PE kit, and that this is clean, in good repair and that the child’s name is written on all items.

If you have any difficulties with fulfilling this for any reason, they are asked to speak confidentially to Sarah Thomas, Debbie Oldroyd or Lisa Allanson. Parents should be assured that we will do all we can to help. Children who arrive at school wearing non-school uniform clothing will be loaned an appropriate item to wear for that day. The same system will apply for children who do not have a PE kit.
