School Meals

Arbor and School Grid

We use two easy-to-access online systems to help parents manage school information, communication and payments.

Arbor

Arbor is our school management and communication system. We encourage all parents and carers to download the Arbor app as soon as their child joins our school.

Arbor allows families to:

  • securely update contact information
  • book parents’ evening appointments
  • receive school messages and updates
  • give consent for trips and activities
  • pay for school trips, clubs and wraparound care
  • complete forms and surveys
  • monitor attendance and absence information

Arbor will continue to be used for all non-meal related payments.

School Grid

School Grid is our online school meal ordering and payment system.

Parents and carers can use School Grid to:

  • view the school menu
  • pre-order meals for their child
  • make secure online payments for school meals
  • see ingredient and allergen information
  • manage meal choices quickly and easily from any device

Meals should be ordered in advance wherever possible.

ABM Catering

We are delighted to be working in partnership with ABM Catering to provide high-quality school meals for our pupils.

ABM’s GROW catering service focuses on providing freshly prepared, nutritious and enjoyable meals that support children’s health, wellbeing and learning throughout the school day.

Why choose a school meal?

ABM meals are:

  • freshly prepared on site by trained catering staff
  • nutritionally balanced and designed for growing children
  • compliant with School Food Standards
  • packed with variety, including vegetarian and plant-based choices
  • designed to encourage children to try new foods and flavours
  • supported by seasonal menus and themed food days
  • developed using a “traffic light” nutritional approach to reduce excess salt, sugar and fat
  • created using responsibly sourced ingredients and quality suppliers

Children can enjoy a wide range of meals including traditional favourites, world food dishes, pasta options, jacket potatoes and daily vegetarian choices.

Menus also include fresh vegetables, salads, fruit and healthy desserts.

ABM is committed to promoting positive food experiences and helping children build healthy eating habits for life.

Good value for families

At £2.80 per meal, school dinners offer excellent value for money.

Recent UK comparisons suggest that preparing a nutritionally balanced packed lunch can often cost between £3.25 and £4.50 per day, meaning school meals can help families save money as well as time. (schoolhealthuk.co.uk)

School meals are carefully planned to meet nutritional standards and provide:

  • a balanced hot meal
  • protein, carbohydrates and vegetables
  • healthier dessert options
  • variety across a three-week menu cycle
  • portion sizes designed for growing children

In contrast, research regularly shows that many packed lunches can contain higher levels of sugar, salt and processed snacks while offering less nutritional balance.

Is your child eligible for a Free School Meal?

Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM), meaning meals are provided free of charge.

Children in older year groups may also qualify for Free School Meals (FSM) depending on family circumstances.

If you think your child may be eligible for FSM, particularly if they are currently in Year 2 or moving into Key Stage 2, we strongly encourage you to apply. Registering for FSM can provide additional support for your family and also helps school secure extra funding to support pupils.

Supporting dietary needs

ABM Catering works closely with schools and families to support children with allergies, intolerances and medical dietary requirements.

Special diet menus can be created where appropriate, and families will be supported through the application process to ensure meals are safe and suitable for every child.

More than just lunchtime

Throughout the year, ABM also offers:

  • themed menu days and celebration events
  • seasonal promotions
  • healthy eating initiatives
  • competitions and pupil engagement activities
  • special birthday treats

These experiences help make lunchtime enjoyable, social and positive for children.

We look forward to working with ABM Catering to provide healthy, enjoyable and high-quality meals for all pupils.
